Peter Pan's Shadow

This is the image I referred to before as being a belated present for someone. I sure hope she's not looking here. Her copy of the illustration still hasn't arrived, but I decided to post this here anyways, since I thought it would be good for the Illustration Friday topic this week.

Logos?

I'm trying to get a more cohesive look between my Cate Anevski stuff and my Bee's Knees Industries stuff. I spend a lot of time being unsure what fits where. I like the idea of having a company that's a bit separate from myself, but right now, the two are too separate. This is the first step: new logos! You like? I think I do.

This should be the beginning of a whole redesign of everything. I'm starting with business cards, since I'm almost out, and moving on from there.

Bat Priest, Or Something

Just one of many new ideas inspired by reading Jane Eyre. Aren't old romantic gothic novels the best? Right now, I'm reading a couple of books some friends lent me, but after that, I think I'm going to read Phantom of the Opera. I just love the spooky inspiration.

The Good, The Bad, and The Hopefully Pretty

Good news: I did my taxes today, and I actually get money back this year.
Bad news: It's because I have a ridiculous spending habit that I just happened to direct towards my business in 2007. (No profit means no profit to pay taxes on.)

Good news: Everything's nicely lined up for my letters of recommendation for my application to PNCA.
Bad news: I think I've screwed up obtaining my transcripts, which would doom my application, and the Loyola Web site is down, so I can't even check to see if I'll somehow be saved.

Good news: I'll move to Portland no matter what.
Bad news: I'll move to Portland no matter what. (Sorry, David.)

Me? The Best??

Craftster has chosen my Cross-Section of a Cloud illustration as one of the best projects of 2007. I'm just tickled pink to be included amongst so many wonderful projects. My piece is down towards the bottom of the page, in the "More Art, Less Craft" section, but be sure to check out all of the other featured items on the list. There's some really amazing talent on that site.

Thanks for choosing me, Craftster!

I Made a Marionette

You'll just have to take my word for it that it's a marionette. Admittedly, it doesn't really move much, but you can see the shadow of the wooden part on the wall. I did it for a series of hero dolls at the Contemporary Art Museum here in St. Louis for the show, May These Changes Make Us Light.

I was supposed to make a doll of a local hero, so I chose Kramer's Marionettes, whom I lived next door to until I was three. I couldn't distinguish between Bob Kramer and Doug Feltch, so I called both of them Bobbydud. This is the mythical beast based on my three-year-old confusion.

Dinosaurs Need Love, Too

So, what the heck have I been up to, huh?

I've been taking a bit of a blogging break these days. So much so that I haven't even come on here to let anyone know that I'm taking a break. I've been working a regular retail job for a while, and I've really been enjoying it. I've also spent a ton of time reading and cooking, as you can see by my dinosaur pie above.

I'm certainly not shutting down the blog, but I am taking a bit of time to reflect. I've been directing my creativity elsewhere for a while, but I know as soon as I feel rested enough, I'll go right back to drawing and crafting the way I was before. (I do have one thing to show you, but it's a gift for a friend, so until she receives it, it'll have to remain top secret.)

I hope to be back to blogging soon, and if nothing else, I'll start sharing some recipes on here. It seems that all my creative endeavors end up as cookies these days, so I'll just have to share the wealth.

And thanks so much to those who've checked in on me. It's really nice to know that I am indeed noticed in the good ol' blogosphere. I guess I just needed a bit of a vacation.
