The Green Post

I gardened today. On my way outside, I saw this guy through the window chowing down on something. By the time I got to the yard, he was gone, but he had left a pile of feathers behind.

Anyone know what he is?

Looks like a hawk, Cate!

Thanks for identifying him. A hawk in my yard is pretty exciting! The best part of all: the baby bunnies back there are still alive and well. (I saw them hopping around again yesterday.)

Wow. It's been years since I saw a hawk that close. Well, if you don't count the ones I saw on the Rogue River last year. But a week floating down a wild river in't "real life". or is it?
Your little plants make me want to rush outside and dig in the dirt!

I don't think I've ever seen a hawk that close in the wild, even in the real wild, so I was pretty excited. Wildlife in the city is just such a cool thing! And please do dig in the dirt. It's so much fun, plus I don't want to be the only one who permanently has mud under her fingernails...
